Doesn't it "scrub up well"!

Rarely can you describe the Community Centre as posh. Practical certainly, efficient often, and usually plain and utilitarian. But on Friday evening (May 20th) when the Tarvin Pre-School held a fund-raising dinner dance, the space was transformed. It took some large round tables covered in black tablecloths and chairs covered in black covers decorated with white chiffon. Some great lighting was installed by a local events firm, who also added a black and white chequered floor and a state of the art sound system. Add candles and balloons, good food and a certain amount of liquid refreshment and the evening was ready to rock and roll. There was even a glitter ball!

All this took a great deal of hard work from both the professionals and the staff of the Pre-School, but the result was a wonderful evening. There was even the unexpected arrival of the Cheshire Fire Brigade to enliven proceedings, summoned fortunately only by a technical glitch (which is currently being corrected)

This is the second time recently that the Community Centre has been decked out in finery for a celebration. The Committee hope that people looking to celebrate a family event, or to have a fund-raising 'do' will consider the venue in the future. When the redevelopment is completed the provision of a bar and lounge area will make the space even more flexible. While the Centre's more everyday looks will always be in the background, a bit of imagination and some carefully chosen accessories will make all the difference.

So when looking for a venue, don't think Community Centre – think Ritz!
