Ensuring safety from fire in Tarvin Woodland.

As a result of the extended spell of hot weather, there have recently been wildfires burning at various places across Great Britain.  Often these are the result of carelessness or thoughtlessness, with discarded cigarettes or disposable barbecues being the major culprits.  Any area covered in combustible and increasingly dry material could be at risk, and while we consider that it is probably unlikely that Tarvin’s woodland will suddenly combust, the hot weather does increase that possibility, however remote that possibility may be considered to be.  It is a truism that all disasters were considered unlikely – until they happened!   With that in mind, we feel that it is important that we should use every possible resource at our disposal to keep everyone safe, since many others are near to (or in) the woodland much more frequently than are the Woodland Trustees!

The ones in the “front line” are the users of the woodland.  At each gate, there is a notice asking people to exercise caution about doing anything which might start a fire and being vigilant in watching for any indication that a fire is developing.   If a fire is spotted, they are asked to please IMMEDIATELY TELEPHONE 999.

The Fire Brigade would appreciate knowing the best point of access to the woodland, so giving them the appropriate What3Words reference for the access gate would be very helpful.
