Our demonstrator was our Chairman of the Cheshire area of N.A.F.A.S. and hertitle was "Elements".On this occasion the elements were the design elements of floral art and not the wet and windy weather outside. These are colour, texture, space, line and form. To these, Louise added harmony for her final design.

First she represented colour. She used an oblong yellow pot with red decoration. This was the 1st design in which she used no floral foam. Her flowers which were held in place by a ball of plant material were deep, orangey red parrot tulips, red roses and dull yellow yarrow. Simple but dramatic.

Next we had line for which Louise based her design around some large driftwood. She used mixed foliage with pussy willow at either side and added very pale pink spray roses and deeper pink gerbera.

Design 3 was in a matt purple square container and concentrated on form. She placed 2 large purple twisted leaves and large palms into the design. She then covered the base with curled aspidistra leaves before adding orange proteas and very unusual purple coloured carnations and some large fatsia leaves. This was very striking and could also have represented colour. This shows how all the elements are used together to produce a good design.

Shape was in a large string covered horseshoe shape with the flowers all at the base, This was mainly yellow with rananculas, yarrow and another small flower.

Freesia were added and the effect looked like a growing border of flowers. At the end she added gold sprayed spades.

Design 5 showed us texture with a pot covered with wood pieces used to hold pampas grass and bullrushes along with bulbous brown seed heads. To display this one she placed it in front of a screen with textured wood decoration.

Finally we had a double design in green and white to give us harmony. Both designs were on metal stands and contained white skimmia in the foliage and white alstomeria, white antirrinums to complement the large green crysanthemums. To complete her flowers Louise added beautiful white roses tinged with green.

All very different designs which gave a fantastic show at the end and many happy raffle winners.

Some of our demonstrators do not like their work copied so do not want to be seen on facebook or have whole designs photographed.

Our next meeting will be on May 19th when we have Eleanor Davies to entertain us with flowers. Hope to see you there. Visitors are very welcome.
