On Saturday 26th January, visitors to Storyhouse will have an opportunity to take a "book" out of the Human Library.

What does this mean? Started in Denmark in 2000 and now an international phenomenon, a Human Library consists of individuals whose life experiences seem to put them in a "different" category, a category that may give rise to misunderstanding or even prejudice among the general population. This may be because of their ethnicity, gender, health challenges or appearance.

The Human Library project encourages you to meet, on a face to face basis, the real human being behind the label. For up to half an hour you can enjoy a dialogue with someone who is prepared to discuss their situation and to answer questions you may have. These conversations may challenge stereotypes and make you think a bit about the complexities, challenges and advantages of lives that are different to your own.

There will be up to 10 "books" in the Human Library on Saturday. All that is needed is curiosity and a willingness to listen and interact.

The Human Library will be in the space below the big screen, near The Kitchen. It will run from 11.00 am until 3.00 pm and is free to all who come along.
