The Parish Council is delighted to have been informed by Historic England that the War Memorial on Church Street has been granted Grade II listed building status. While it is hard to imagine a scenario where the War Memorial might be threatened, the granting of such a status means that it retains extra protection in the future.
Historic England advise that the Parish Council make an annual visual inspection of the Monument which should involve detailed photographs. Should any deterioration occur, Historic England have experts who can advise on appropriate solutions. The Council meeting agreed to undertake such an inspection every August starting in 2017.
Despite the passing of the years since it was erected, the War Memorial, like countless others throughout the land, remains a focus for the remembrance of all those who have given their lives for their country in the Great War and those that have happened since.
