After a brief period of intensive renovation work, the Tarvin Co-op was formally opened on Thursday 14th February. The ribbon was formally cut by Tarvin resident Brenda Wright. Brenda, who was accompanied by her husband Brian, happen to be the grandparents of Team Manager Tom Bannister. Appropriately for Valentine's Day, they celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary this year.

Store Manager, Peter Baumber, also invited representatives of the three Community Partners, who will benefit from the current round of Community funding. Tarvin Community Centre have already benefited from the fund and were there along with Tarvin Nursery and Pre-School. The third local organisation that will benefit from the Community Fund this time round will be St Peter's Primary School Duddon PTA. The Co-op encourages membership of the organisation and among the benefits, 1% of member's purchases of Co-op branded goods goes to local community worthy causes.

£400,000 has been invested in the shop which employs 18 local staff in both full and part-time positions. The interior has been redesigned with new shelving and display cabinets in a new and improved layout. As well as an extended range of goods, there is now a Costa take-away coffee stand and a small hot food section. The shop and the outside signage now carry the new Co-op colours and logo.

The Co-op store has proved popular since it opened in 2011, providing a service for both local and passing customers. It looks well placed to continue to serve the area for many years to come.
