Residents can now subscribe to have their Garden Waste collected for 2026, with collections due to restart on the week of 9 March 2026.
The service operates on an opt-in basis and costs 55 per bin per calendar year. Residents can subscribe for as many bins as they need, but each will be subject to the 55 charge.
Residents in receipt of full council tax reduction will be offered a reduction of 10 on the cost of one garden waste bin.
The best time to sign up for the service is before the middle of February to benefit from all 20 collections during the calendar year.
The service is offered fortnightly over 40 weeks of the year with a 12-week suspension outside of growing season over the winter months.
The last collections of garden waste will take place before 11 December 2026, on residents usual collection days.
If residents produce garden waste before collections restart, they can dispose of it at their local household waste recycling centre for composting.
Alternatively, residents could store it in a sheltered place in their garden, and then place it into their garden waste bin once the 2026 service starts again, or alternatively carry out home composting.
Home compost can be used in the spring or summer as a mulch or dug into the top of your soil. More information can be found by visiting our web site: Home composting | Cheshire West and Chester Council
The Council believes it is important that we do everything possible to recycle as much as possible, and garden waste is great for producing compost and green energy that can be used in our Borough.
The collection of garden waste is not a core service that councils are required to provide, and so this service operates on an opt-in basis so is only paid for by the people who wish to use it.
