Request for information about Revd John Stonhouse Luxmoore

Revd John Stonhouse Luxmoore, Curate of Tarvin from 1905 to 1916, was born in Ashford-in-the-Water in the Derbyshire Peak District in 1863. His parents were Revd John Reddaway Luxmoore, who was the parish Priest at Holy Trinity Church, Ashford-in-the-Water, for 52 years; and Rosalie Luxmoore (née Stonhouse), the daughter of a well-connected clergyman and the great-granddaughter of Revd Sir James Stonhouse, the 11th Baronet Radley.

Revd John Stonhouse Luxmoore was ordained priest at Chester Cathedral in 1900 and, prior to taking up his appointment at Tarvin, he was licensed to St Peter's Church, Rock Ferry, on the Wirral. Following his curacy at Tarvin he returned to the Peak District, becoming Vicar of Edale and, subsequently, Diocesan Chaplain to the Bishop of Sheffield. He died in Sheffield at the age of 77.

He held a deep fascination for ecclesiastical history and genealogy, and researched (but never published) a history of his father's church in Ashford-in-the-Water.

If anyone has information about Revd John Stonhouse Luxmoore's time at Tarvin, I would be very pleased to hear from you, so that I can fill in this gap in his biography!

Thank you very much.

Ian Pykett.
