During the Open Forum of the October Parish Council (PC) meeting members of the public raised a number of road traffic issues. Speeding was raised with concerns mainly covering in and around Oscroft but also in Tarvin where Hockenhull Lane was highlighted. It was pointed out that the pandemic had led to an increased number of walkers/joggers along the narrow lanes, many wearing dark clothing making it more difficult for motorists. Another member of the public felt that traffic congestion on Hockenhull Lane could be reduced if the green space part way along on the east side (between properties 41 and 51) was removed and replaced by an off-street parking bay.

The PC noted that a comprehensive speeding review of Oscroft had been carried out in 2015 by Highways and Police when all properties in Oscroft were consulted by the PC but agreed that the pandemic had increased the number of walkers and joggers on the narrow lanes. This change will be drawn to the attention of Cheshire West and Cheshire Highways, but the PC does not expect any immediate action as speed limits are generally determined by applying national criteria.

The PC agreed to look again at investing in flashing speed signs (similar to the one pictured above) for 4 locations: Shay Lane entering Oscroft from the A54, Willington Road entering Oscroft from Willington, Cross Lanes between Tarvin and Oscroft and Tarporley Road, Tarvin. The police will also be asked to deploy their mobile speed camera van more regularly to the Tarvin Parish area.
