Every Saturday morning you will find lots of energetic children going into the Community Centre....they're going to RUGBYTOTS!
What is RugbyTots and where has it come from?
In 2006, Max Webb, a rugby-playing parent was trying to find a pre-school rugby class for his three young boys...but back in 2006 there was nothing of that kind around. It quickly became clear that he wasn't the only parent looking for a rugby play programme for younger children, and what he'd spotted was a very exciting gap in the child development sector
Seizing the opportunity to start his own business — and fulfil his wish of involving his boys in rugby at a fun and accessible level — Max founded Rugbytots
What to expect...
"Be prepared to run across the jungle, wade through the quick sand or sprint through Rugbytots Valley avoiding all the smoking boulders. Get ready to protect your egg, launch a missile or attack the pirates and seize the ship, all this of course, whilst trying to avoid the evil side lines!"
Age 2-3½ — 30 mins
Rugbytots' activities for 2 to 3 year olds are a great way to spend time with your child while they learn and play. Pre-school activities incorporate fast-paced fun with learning. The activities for toddlers teach children about shapes, colours, numbers and counting. And as well as enjoying team games, the children are encouraged to work independently.
Age 3½-5 — 45 mins
Rugbytots' activity classes for 3½ to 5 year olds begin to introduce children to Rugby and the specific skills involved, providing a positive environment for children to discover a new world of sporting imagination. Active classes for 3½ to 5-year-olds do not require full parent participation, but cheering and encouragement is essential! Rugbytots enables boys and girls to discover a new world of sporting imagination. At this age a dynamic 45-minute sports play session packed with fun activities will develop their social and physical skills in a positive environment.
Activities that start to develop you child's rugby skills. Rugbytots' activity programme for 5 to 7-year-olds focuses on fun and encouragement, while enhancing self-esteem and confidence. As such, activities for children age 5 and over really start to set the foundations for all aspects of life after Rugbytots.
To ensure that the basic skills of rugby are coached in the right way by maintaining small class numbers. The classes follow the same structure as our sessions younger children, but also involve advanced team games.
Introducing tag rugby to 5 to 7-year-olds
With 5 to 7-year-olds, we gently introduce the rules of tag rugby. Every session includes a game of tag rugby to prepare children perfectly for their next sporting adventure!
They will learn about finding space, looking after the ball, scoring tries and running with the ball in two hands.
The classes will also help improve their general agility and balancing skills.
Rugbytots activities are safe, bright and fun — using kit and equipment suited to the ages of children taking part in activities.
