The second term of a new Tarvin literature class will start at 2.00pm on Monday January 29th at the Community Centre. The class will be studying two novels by the Irish writer Colm Toibin, Brooklyn and Nora Webster. There are still spaces available and if you would like to join this lively group, please do get in touch with Andy Jurgis at andyjurgis@gmail.com

Andy Jurgis is a former WEA Lecturer and a freelance literature tutor who runs a number of literary classes in the area. Under his guidance, the class will look closely and critically at the text, exploring the nuances and meanings behind the words, and gaining an understanding of the author's style. No previous literary experience or qualifications are needed and no written work is expected!

During the first tern at Tarvin the class looked at the essays and poetry of Kathleen Jamie, currently the Scottish Makar, or national poet. They studied 'Surfacing' and the poetry collection 'The Bonniest Companie'.

New class member Sue Hardcare said " As an avid reader I often rush through books, and it was a both a challenge and a pleasure to have to sit back and savour words and sentences slowly and to seek out meaning. I am not usually a great lover of poetry, but I am now a firm Jamie fan."

The term consists of 6 sessions lasting two hours and the cost is £84, including refreshments.
