Sponsoring Ukranian refugees

My name is Sharon Payne and I live in Tarvin. My husband and I have signed up to sponsor Ukrainian refugees. We have been matched with a family and applications are in progress. I am reaching out to ask if there are others in Tarvin and surrounding areas that are planning to do the same. Please do let me know as I think it would be great if we could set up a community support group. If there is enough interest maybe we could set up a Facebook group or maybe a community group on Tarvin online?

The Homes for Ukraine Scheme
The Government has launched its Home for Ukraine scheme, allowing people to take in Ukrainian refugees in the UK. More than 80,000 people registered their interest to host a refugee on Monday 14th March, the day the online portal opened.
Individuals and families can get support if providing a home to A refugee or refugee family, although they have to agree to a commitment of a minimum of 6 months. Refugees will be allowed access to the NHS and can work in the uk. Ukrainian children will be able to go to uk schools.

The UK was heavily criticised for its initial response to Ukraine's refugee crisis, only granting visas to a fraction of the tens of thousands of applicants.
Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, Michael Gove, claims scheme will bring thousands of refugees to the UK.

There are many other articles on the web about this issue and obviously, this is a huge commitment, So do your homework before you decide to take the plunge. However, at a time when it is hard to know what we can really, tangibly do to help these desperate families and individuals here is a most definite answer.
