Our June meeting was very well attended by an enthusiastic audience eager to hear about Paul Mercer’s adventures in Norway, and we were certainly not disappointed!
Paul humorously and engagingly guided us through his experiences, from trolls and Viking ships to his time teaching in a Norwegian school.
A highlight was his involvement in an ambitious project to build a museum and heritage centre dedicated to the Viking way of life. Drawing on his extensive knowledge and experience with Viking heritage sites in York and beyond, Paul made a significant contribution to the development of this centre.
The most impressive part of his journey was the construction of a full-size replica Viking longboat, crewed by 100 rowers. Paul proudly took part in rowing the vessel on one of its inaugural voyages, an unforgettable experience!
Thank you, Paul, for such an entertaining and informative evening.
As always, the meeting concluded on a high note with Mairi’s excellent homemade biscuits, accompanied by tea and coffee.
