Members of St Andrews Women's Group were pleased to welcome local author Fi Miles as their guest speaker. Fi treated the group to a thoroughly entertaining and humorous talk. The gathering drew almost a record attendance in anticipation of Fi's talk.
Fi took the group on an engaging journey through the trials and tribulations of writing and ultimately publishing a novel. A talented speaker as well as a writer, Fi guided members through the entire process, from the initial spark of inspiration right through to seeing the finished book in print. We discovered that this was not as easy as might be thought and involved lots of discussions with publishers, other writers, "beta-readers" (friends who read the first draft of the manuscript), proofreaders and then the challenges of marketing a new title.
Fi's debut novel, The Second Life of Ged Baker, is set in Cornwall and the inspiration came from Fi's connection with Coverack where she spends as much time as possible. The eye-catching cover was designed by local graphic artist Darren Tarplee-Williams and is a striking piece of art in its own right.
Fi is now working on the second book of her "Secrets of Porthcovery Grange" series, and says she is enjoying her research as much as writing the book itself. Copies of The Second Life of Ged Baker are available directly from Fi, through Amazon, or on Kindle. I am looking forward to what promises to be a good read.
Thankyou Fi, for a lovely evening and congratulations on becoming an author.
The group's next meeting will be held on Wednesday, 3rd June, when the speaker will be a representative from the Clotton Dairy Company.
