St Andrew's Womens Group

For our October meeting we all gathered in the Parish Church where we met local Historian and enthusiast Peter Collins who was our guide for the evening.

Beginning at the entrance to the church Peter guided us through the history of the church and its original construction and the later additions. We were surprised to hear that the original church was only a 3rd the size of the present building. The chapel known as the Bruen Chapel being the original church.

There were so many things that many of us had not noticed before including memorial tablets to local families including one to a lady whose claim to fame appeared to be the bearing of 20 children.

There is a history corner set up and arranged by Peter Collins of various archaeological finds in the village including from the civil war, Roman and earlier.

This was a very enjoyable evening enjoyed by us all . We are lucky to have this lovely church in our village and would encourage everyone to visit and learn more of its history.

Thankyou Peter for a very interesting and enlightening evening enjoyed by all who attended.

The evening was made complete by our usual home-made refreshments. Thankyou Mairi.

At our November meeting we will learn more about Therapy Dogs from our speaker Sue Caddell with a visit from Gem. We look forward to seeing you there.
