The November meeting of the St Andrews Women's Group was a great success with a full audience to hear our speaker Sue Caddell tell us about the charity Therapy Pets Nationwide.
The work of the charity takes volunteers and their fully trained dogs into care homes, hospitals, hospices and schools. The interaction with dogs in any stressful situation has proved to be beneficial in all cases, bringing calmness, peace and happiness to many people. Often people in care have been separated from their own pets and welcome a regular visit from dogs and volunteers like Sue and her dog Meg.
Sue has been involved with this charity for several years as a volunteer with MEG and is now training her young dog GEM (Meg spelled backwards!!) to follow Meg's example.
Accompanied by her husband David and Gem, Sue demonstrated how a dog is trained and assessed for this important role. We are all wishing Gem and Sue good luck . In the meantime Sue continues her work as an assessor with this very worthwhile charity.
Our usual home made refreshments with tea and coffee gave an opportunity to chat, catch up with friends and learn more about their work from Sue and David.
Our next meeting will be our Christmas Lunch at the George and Dragon on Wednesday 4th December.
