Speaker: Stuart Wood

My Life as a River Mersey Pilot

Stuart Wood was a River Mersey pilot for many years and tells us the fascinating and varied stories of his lifetime as a Mersey Pilot.

Pilots guide shipping into, and out of, the River Mersey shipping system from the Bar Light Ship, which is some miles out in the Irish Sea, all the way into the River Mersey itself, the docks on both banks and the Manchester Ship Canal.

Stuart is also President of the Daniel Adamson Preservation Society.

This is a fascinating history of trade and life on and around the River Mersey.

You can find out more from the u3a website – https://tarporleyanddistrict.u3asite.uk – where the monthly newsletter is available, as is information on how to join the u3a.
