No – not a criminal but a criminal barrister
Simon is an author, was a council labourer, has been a gardener and is member of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple – The Bar.
Simon was a barrister for 37 years working at the Old Bailey and other criminal courts defending and prosecuting a wide selection of murderers armed robbers, con artists and other assorted villainy.
This as an hour of Tales from the Bar, also touching on writing crime novels and family history.
Simon, often referred to as "the British John Grisham", is author of best-selling London 1960s legal crime thrillers featuring antihero barrister, Charles Holborne, born Charlie Horowitz, a former heavyweight boxer and occasional criminal, once known by his East End associates as "the Yiddisher Brick Shithouse". Now a barrister, battling prejudiceand corruption..
Simon was published in the UK and the US in the 1980s and returned to writing when he retired in 2016. The Charles Holborne series of books, now nine books, have garnered strong reviews for their authenticity and excitement and are under contract for a TV series.
Simon's tales from the Bar and the plots for his novels are based on his criminal practice, his life and that of his own family. Refugees from the Spanish Inquisition.
