Childminder, Carolyn Bodger, 30, was recently rated as "outstanding in all areas" following an Ofsted inspection in March. This is no mean feat. Criteria for the outstanding rating has become more stringent in recent
years, and less than 7% of childminders achieve this excellent standard.

Miss Bodger has three children of her own. She worked initially, for St Johns Ambulance and a local pre-school, but then studied hard to qualify as a registered childminder. She has run her childminding business since January 2012 with the support of mum Jenny, a registered childminding assistant, Dad Vic, and partner Adrian from their home in Tarvin.

Carolyn says 'It takes not months but years of hard work to really get going on a new venture." It has taken toughness and tenacity to deal with the highs and lows of running her own business. As well as her gentle
and attentive approach with the children, she is professional with parents.

Some may think that childminding is simply glorified babysitting for a full day. Think again. Modern-day childminding is a challenging, skilled and highly professional vocation. Childminders are expected to provide
a high level of attentive and stimulating day-care, structured play, pre-school education along Early Years Foundations Stage (EYFS) guidelines, a high standard of safeguarding and stimulate children's mental, physical and emotional development to the same level as Pre-schools and private nurseries, but in a more home-like environment.

In the report the inspector praised Carolyn for her "expert knowledge of how children learn and develop which underpins and informs all aspects of her practice." According to the report, '"the children are thriving in Carolyn's care." The inspector was also impressed with her teaching strategies and the way she helped the children to develop language skills and learning. Her close relationship with parents and other settings allows Carolyn to meet each child's individual needs and also supports the parents in helping children enjoy learning and develop their full potential in a safe, fun and engaging way.

Her clients parents are delighted. Here are some their of comments:

'A lovely place for your child to learn and play in a friendly warm environment.'

'Best place to leave your kids, responsible and fun!'

'I feel happy knowing that my child is secure and safe and well looked after.'

Carolyn is also a member of 'Run it like a CEO' group coaching program, an international group providing business advice, support, training and conferences to childcare businesses worldwide.
