At the Committee meeting last night (Oct 6th) the Committee agreed to fund the renovation of the Community Centre kitchen. If all goes well the changes should be completed by the beginning of the New Year.

It had been the original intention to look for grant funding to bring the kitchen up to full commercial standard, but the process of grant application is slow and cumbersome. The Committee is waiting for a decision in November on their application for money to create a new lounge area. Should this be successful then the management of this will be intense and time consuming, pushing any plans to change the kitchen further into the future.

Alan Wilkinson, Chair of the Committee explained "There is no doubt that the kitchen is intensively used by many of our customers on a regular basis. Also with the redecoration of the Edna Rose Room we hope to attract more customers for parties and social functions. Yet the kitchen is getting decidedly outdated and difficult to keep clean to a standard that we are happy with. So, after a careful look at our finances, we have decided to invest in kitchen improvements which we hope will future-proof it for between 8-10 years"

The plan involves knocking down the wall between the kitchen and the cloakroom giving access to the kitchen from the foyer. The door to the kitchen from the Edna Rose Room will remain, but there will be no access directly from the Hall. The serving hatch will be moved further way from the stage and the existing opening blocked up. Major new equipment will include a wall mounted water boiler and a rapid cycle dishwasher. Use will be made of the existing units but the floor and wall tiles will be replaced. Not only will these changes give more space but will improve the flow of activities and should enable all customers to clear up after events much more rapidly.

The Committee is extremely grateful for the support it continues to get from the community and is delighted to be able to put the funds accumulated to such a good use. They are also confident that there is sufficient in the bank to complete the renovation of the lounge when (lets be confident!) the grant is approved.
