From Tarvin Community Centre Committee of Management ....
As many of you will know, there have been contractors on site at the Community Centre since late last month. This has caused some disruption to our regular users and has meant that the Library has been closed temporarily and replaced by a mobile library which is visiting on Saturdays in August.*
The contractors are working to upgrade the Community Centre toilets. This has been a long-standing ambition of the Committee of Management, and represents the final stage of a programme of major investment carried out by the Committee over recent years.
All of the old toilets have been stripped out and the partition walls removed. The old toilet for people with a disability has been revamped -- the new one will be slightly smaller but still large enough to accommodate whoever needs to use it. Next along the corridor will be the gents' toilets. The ladies' toilets will be at the far end of the corridor, significantly larger and more conveniently laid out than before, with three individual cubicles. There will be new partition walls, ceilings and flooring throughout, and all new sanitary ware.
Part of the additional space has been found by incorporating a small section of the so-called Small Room (at the end of the corridor on the left), but this room will still be large enough to accommodate meetings and small groups, as before.
Also as part of the work, the box office hatch has been removed from the foyer and replaced by a door into the store-room (replacing the door from the corridor). This will make it easier to manoeuvre furniture from the store-room to the Edna Rose Room or the Hall.
So far the work is progressing well, and we hope that by the beginning of September the new facilities will be complete and ready to be admired by all our users.
