November Meeting Report

The main hall of the community centre was abuzz with folk buying or browsing stalls, drinking Buck's Fizz and chatting to friends. Then it was 7-30 and silence fell upon the hall and Beryl Cotton, our national demonstrator, appeared on an otherwise black stage.

She expertly transformed the stage with large and beautiful arrangements until it was so full that Beryl and her husband who helps her could hardly find room to move.

The designs were mainly traditional in style and all contained one colour of flower only. The foliage was mainly from gardens but she also used palms and aspidistra leaves, For added effect she had lightly sprayed some foliage in gold and silver. The flowers used included chrysanthemums, carnations, tulips, gerbera, anthurium, orchids, calla lilies, hydrangea with ilex berries and small cabbage plants. The roses and gerbera were particularly good as Beryl had chosen unusual shades and shapes. The orchids added a special wow to the designs. A .few baubles and cones were added.

Whilst demonstrating Beryl kept us informed of what she was using and kept our attention with tales of her childhood and included two poems.

As Beryl displayed her completed designs she often added a second smaller one that she had previously arranged. the curtains were closed for a very short time and then reopened with the final display and added lights. Wow, what a wonderful display. It was the beautiful flowers which dominated.

The raffle provided many happy people until they tried to get their winning design into their car.

Mainly homemade seasonal refreshments followed, delicious.

We have no meetings in December or January, Our A.G.M. with surprise entertainment will be advertised.

Thanks to Mary Mayes for the photographs of this meeting and for the ones she has taken throughout the year.

We have a good programme planned for 2025 so hope you can join us then.
