Tarvin Brownies; Roni Wilkinson, 7, Emma Thomas, 7, Danielle Wilkinson, 10, Jodie Robinson, 10, and Yolanda Taylor, 9, took their own cuddly owls along to their club night.
Members of 1st Tarvin Brownies raised money in October 1995 to adopt their own barn owl at Chester Zoo. The Girls raised £40 by charging entry for a talk by Tom McNally and his Barn Owl, Bodge, of Cheshire Falconry based at Bridgemere and a further £20 by selling hot dogs.
The girls, who visited the zoo in May with their own brown owl, Helen Wilson, will be charged £120 a year to adopt a bird.
Barn owls, although indigenous to the UK, are still a threatened species as more and more barns – not surprisingly their favourite habitat- are converted into homes. The zoo breeds barn owls and then releases them into the wild. charged £120 a year to be able to adopt a bird.
