Under the Title of "Gnome Help for Garden Folk" two Tarvin schoolboys launched their new business, The British Gnome Service, in an article that appeared in the Chester Chronicle for November 1985.

The article by Michael Green was as follows:

Adam and Edward Bedington have launched The British Gnome Service to "brighten up the forgotten little people in their gardens." Their pocket money enterprise has "gone public" with a postcard advertisement in their village shop and even national radio coverage after the singular success of their first gnome-painting job.

"Schoolboy enterprise:Garden Gnome Repainting Service. £1 for 18inch high gnomes. Free collection." said their advert.

However,Adam, aged 12, of 67 Hallfield Road in Tarvin explained:"the collection and delivery will have to be within range of my bike."
His brother, Edward, aged 10 said:"A real gnome should have a red hat, green jacket and brown boots. We have to be careful with the boots, the brown paint has to dry before we paint the laces black otherwise the paint goes all splodgy."

The idea started during the summer holiday when the boys repainted two gnomes for a neighbour. They enjoyed doing this so much, they decided to offer their services to whoever needed them.
Unfortunately, despite recent publicity customers have been difficult to find but Adam and Edward are hoping business will start to pick up soon!

Ed:"Wonder what happened to this business"
