In April 1992 a fire gutted two large hay barns at Hockenhull Farms Limited. The alarm was raised by a nearby resident at 3am on a Sunday and seven appliances from Chester and Northwich attended.
The buildings were a total write- off together with hay, straw and three trailers. The good news on the cattle breeding farm was that nine carves in one of the barns managed to escape and were later found in a field.
The owner, farmer Hugo Arnold, suspected arson because the two barns were not joined together, and they had no electrical fittings. Following a police investigation a man was charged with setting fire to the barns.
