Gas Turn On

Despite the concerns on how the Gas installations were going in Oscroft in our previous article, there was a big turn out of dignitaries for the Turn-on of Gas in Tarvin, which the Chester Chronicle publicised in October 1986.

The event celebrated the biggest extension to the supply system in Britain!

The Mayor of Chester, Cllr Dolores Whiten turned a valve and lit a specially erected flare stack which sent natural gas flowing to more than 400 homes in Tarvin.

After the ceremony, the Mayor and British Gas officials enjoyed a welcome cup of tea with the first customers to be connected in Tarvin, Eric and Margaret Wardle in their Hunters Crescent home!
