Some events seem to be woven into the fabric of village life and they are really missed when they are no longer there. One such is the Horticultural Show, which was last held in 2017. When the Show did not happen in 2018 and then again in 2019, many people were much saddened and the decision was made that we would try to stage it again in 2020. That would have been fine, had nor a pandemic got in the way – and one that lasted right through 2021! Would things be different in 2022? We were determined to try to make them so and the planning for the Show 2022 is now well advanced.

Because of the lengthy gap – 5 years really is a long time – the personnel have all changed and a great many of us are consequently on pretty steep learning curves. However, the schedules are published, the place cards are printed and the Community Centre is booked for Saturday, 13th August 2022. There are over 80 classes, covering flowers, vegetables. fruit, produce and floral art, with six classes being particularly dedicated to children. All entries are free and the children can win cash prizes. Entries in multiple classes are possible and the points won across the various classes will count towards winning some of the trophies, while the other trophies are awarded for the very best specimen in each of the various areas.

Entries must all be received by the Show Secretary, Ian Levitt, before 5pm on Friday, 12th August. All exhibits must be displayed before 11am on the morning of Saturday, 13th August, with judging being completed by 2pm. Everyone is then welcome to come to the Community Centre between 2pm and 3.30pm to view the exhibits, with the presentation of Trophies being made at 3.30pm. Adults pay £2 admission but children accompanying their parent or guardian are admitted free of charge. As ever, refreshments will be served in the Edna Rose Room.

Copies of the schedule and entry forms can be obtained by emailing:-tgs.show.2022@btinternet.com
If paper copies are required, then just drop a line to Ian Levitt at 2, Field Close, Tarvin. CH3 8DL.

Don't miss the chance to be a part of this village tradition. We are not showing at Chelsea – this is a village show of village flowers and fruit and vegetables (not to mention scones and bun loaves!) Your efforts really do have as good a chance of winning as do other people's – but you've got to enter to get that chance. Your first move? Get a schedule! DO IT NOW.
