When Tarvin Gardening Society holds its Annual Show, we always try to get some notable person to present the Trophies for us. In previous years, we have been fortunate to have such folk as Sue Makin (of Clemley House Gardens, Duddon) and our own local Councillor, Ted Lush to make the presentations for us. This year, we were most fortunate in being graced by the presence of the Lord Mayor of Chester (and Admiral of the Dee), Cllr Sherin Akhtar. Despite an incredibly busy schedule, she not only had time to view the entries and to meet the trophy winners as she presented their cups and shields, but she also spent time to share tea and cake with some of the folk at the show!

The difficult season had made growing the flowers, fruit and vegetables very difficult this year but, none-the-less, a splendid selection of exhibits was on show and judges had the usual problems in deciding who had entered the best exhibits in the various classes. The trophy winners were:-

  • The best exhibit in the whole show – a hanging basket – The Royal Mail Cup – won by Kevin Welch.
  • The most points for flower exhibits – the Sunderland Cup – won by Merryn Shaw.
  • The best flower exhibit – The Okells Cup – won by Barry Welch.
  • The best floral art exhibit – The Edna Rose Cup – won by Margaret Dixon..
  • The most points for vegetable exhibits – the Marshall Cup – won by David Riches.
  • The best vegetable exhibit – the King Loui Shield – also won by David Riches.
  • The best fruit exhibit – the TGA Cup – won by Ian Levitt.
  • The most points for exhibits “From the Pantry” – the TGS Cup – won by Doreen de Cani.
  • The best exhibit “From the Pantry” – the W.I. Salver – won by Margaret Bellamy.
  • The most points for Children’s exhibits – the Lichfield Cup – won by Elizabeth Davenport.

Congratulations to all our trophy winners – and to every one of our exhibitors, who succeeded in producing a wonderful display, despite the difficulties which Spring and Summer 2025 produced. Congratulations to you all – every single one of you!
