Tarvin Plant Sale – 16th May 2026.

Most people know that every May, Tarvin has a Plant Sale on High Street. What is not so widely known is that the Plant Sale is the principal fundraiser that permits the Woodland Trustees to continue looking after the woodland throughout the year. To enable such a fundraiser to do its job, the most important requirement is that we have sufficient plants to sell. Where do the plants come from? They come not only from our members but also from you – our friends throughout the area. For several years, we have been asking all of our friends to supply us with whatever plants they can. It would be wonderful if you could provide at least a dozen plants (of whatever description) – and our members and our friends frequently do supply a great many more than just one dozen!

The plants need not cost you a fortune. Are there plants in your garden that you no longer want, but others might like them? If you are splitting over-enthusiastic perennials in your borders, divide them up (see image)- literally dig them up, take a knife and split them, then re-pot the smaller parts (we can supply pots), so that, by May, they are growing well.
If you have seedlings, pot up a few and grow them on, so that we can sell them. Are your neighbours or friends sorting out their garden? Could you get them to put surplus plants on one side for us?

If all else fails, supermarkets will soon be selling packs of seedling plants at very modest prices, which may be a solution for those who don’t want to organise their own plants.

However you get your plants, please deliver them to Tarvin Methodist Church on Thursday 14th May between 1.00pm and 4pm. Then we can organise the plants, and price them on the Friday, ready for the sale on Saturday morning!
