Our August meeting got off to a good start with President Margaret Matthews opening the meeting and warmly greeting members and visitors. Margaret thanked Maureen and Irene for their contribution to last month's meeting and for making it an enjoyable event for everyone. Lorna, who volunteers for the West Cheshire Food Bank, thanked members for their continued generous donations. She said demand had been very high during school holidays and all contributions were very welcome.
Future Events
It was evident that the Committee had been busy and that the Autumn Season is nearly upon us when Margaret produced a list of future social events for the coming months. Members can look forward to two events in September; a visit to the Emma Bridgewater Pottery and Trentham Gardens and a lunch at the Bluebell Café; in October, a Fashion Show hosted by the Forest Group to be held at Tarporley Community Centre and a Tour of Airbus; In November there will be a visit to Clywdd Theatre to see 'Yes Prime Minister'. The usual monthly activities of the Craft Group, The Book Club and The Strollers are well supported and continue to thrive.
This month's speaker was Neil Smith with his Guitar
Maureen reported that Neil Smith who is a world travelled guitarist started life out working as a specialist for the MoD. However, his passion for music gave him the urge to pursue his dream. After working at the Mecca Dance Organisation across the North he began touring Europe and further afield as a professional guitarist. He has played for the BBC, Royalty, film stars, major politicians and has many stories to tell about his travels across the world. His superb repertoire included pieces ranging from the Beatles through to Russian, Spanish and South American music. Not only was the music was a joy to listen to, each performance was accompanied with an interesting tale from his travels. He said he sometimes found himself in danger, sometime in near fatal situations. Member's questions were welcomed and more tales were told before Frances thanked him for sharing his amazing journey through life.
After a most enjoyable evening's activities, tea and coffee was served and everyone took the opportunity to catch up with old friends and new before the meeting closed.
