Yesterday morning, Saturday 24th, the Community Centre Committee was at the local Co-op store to say "Thank you" to all those Co-op members who have contributed to the Co-op Community Fund. This fund, which members add to when they buy Co-op branded products, has raised nearly £9,500 for three local worthy causes.
The Community Centre was delighted to receive a share of this fund worth £3,162 which will be spent of ceiling tiles and lights for the replacement Main Hall ceiling. This work will be undertaken just before Christmas and should make an instant impact to the look of the space.
The next yearly funding cycle has begun, and the Community Centre is delighted to be featured again along with the Pre-School and Duddon PTA.
All Co-op members are encouraged to go on-line and choose a cause. When a cause it not specified, the funds accumulated are distributed equally among the three causes. Membership also includes advantages to members in the form of discounts and individual special offers.
Some residents will be mature enough to remember the old Co-op "divi". The Community Fund is a new expression of this and anchors the local shop in the local community.
The photograph shows the Co-op Manager, Mark Weaver, and Liz Brereton, from the Community Centre management committee, ready to greet customers with a "thank you" cupcake.
