Cheshire West and Chester has two seats in the Youth Parliament and the election which runs from 22 Feb 2016 to 18 March 2016 will determine who the two MYPs will be.

The UK Youth Parliament has been in operation for 15 years. Cheshire has been involved from the beginning and has a proud history of active participation.

The first stage in the process is being selected as one of the five candidates and the day for this selection process is Saturday 30 January 2016. The event will be held at Ellesmere Port Civic Hall, Civic Way, Ellesmere Port, CH65 0AZ, 0151 356 3890. The event starts at 10am and will conclude no later than 4pm.

The selection day will include an opportunity for those wishing to stand to make a one minute 'hustings speech'. When everyone present who wishes to be considered has spoken there will be a vote in which only the young people take part. The mechanics of that election will be explained on the day.

Everybody attending the selection day will be automatically invited to become a member of the Cheshire West & Chester Young People's Senate. This meet regularly through the year and members are also involved with the Council and its partners such as the Police and Health service providers. We also participate in regional events and the MYPs will attend two nation UKYP events, one is the annual sitting every summer and the second is the annual session in the House of Commons Chamber each November.

On the day you will be discussing which issues you believe are most significant for young people in the area. As a group you will produce a list of 10 or 12 which will be on the ballot paper along with the names of the candidates. Voters will be able to pick up to three issues as well as casting their vote for their preferred candidate.

To start the ball rolling perhaps you could identify two topics which are either things you believe to be on young people's minds at the moment or perhaps something which is very important in your own area. A list will be compiled for you to discuss at Selection.
