Unauthorised Bin Collection

Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC) are advising residents when a domestic bin has been
presented for emptying but is not authorised. If you see one of the stickers (shown here) your bin has not been
authorised for collection.

All domestic crews will start to use the stickers from Monday, 27 October. These stickers will be used from that date if any unauthorised bins are presented.

Some properties are placing out additional domestic bins for emptying that have not been
authorised. To ensure the right materials are being placed into the correct bin, residents can
find out ‘what goes where’ by visiting: https://www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/residents/waste-and-recycling/your-bin-collection/what-goes-in-my-binbox

CWaC will provide additional capacity for people with genuine needs. It has often been noticed, however, that people who are presenting more than one bin, or larger bins, are not recycling as much as other households. The extra treatment costs, together with the loss of income from the recycling materials that could have been recovered had they been put in the right container is around £3M pa.

As part of the ten-year Waste Management Strategy adopted by CWaC in July 2021,
the Council is committed to reviewing the waste and recycling service against three identified priorities:
• Reduce overall waste
• Maximise recycling
• Deliver an efficient and cost-effective waste service

All domestic crews will continue to empty unauthorised domestic waste bins that are
presented. A sticker will be placed over the opening of the bin lid to seal the container shut.
Once a sticker has been placed on a bin, if residents do require the additional bin, they can
apply for additional capacity by using the information provided on the sticker. They can also
arrange for the bin to be removed if the bin is not required.

Should residents require additional domestic capacity, requests can be made via: https://www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/residents/waste-and-recycling/your-bin-collection/order-new-or-replacement-bin or by speaking to a member of staff in the contact centre
on Tel: 0300 123 7026.
