Update on Police Crime Commissioner Role

The Government has announced plans to replace the Police and Crime Commissioner model after 2028.

Residents may have seen the recent announcement from the Minister of State for Policing and Crime regarding planned changes to police as part of the forthcoming Police Reform White Paper, the Government has confirmed its intention to remove the current Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) model when existing terms end in May 2028.

For Cheshire, however, it is very much business as usual until that point.

The Cheshire PCC has confirmed that their office remains fully committed to working closely with the Chief Constable to deliver an effective and efficient policing service for local communities.
All currently commissioned services will continue to receive funding, and innovative projects already in development will continue to move forward at pace.

Although the future governance model has not yet been announced, the PCC has stressed their ongoing commitment to serving Cheshire with the same energy and focus shown since the start of their term.
Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of local communities remains the top priority throughout this transition period.

There will be opportunities in the future for local areas to help shape whatever new model is introduced. Until then, residents are encouraged to be reassured that policing services and plans remain fully in place.
