Over the last few years Cheshire West and Chester Council have had to cut back on a number of services to save money. While they still maintain a department able to undertake all the legal requirements connected with Public Rights of Way, and to undertake some development and improvement work, they are unable to keep a close eye on all of the 1267 kms of footpaths in the Council area.

CW&C are now planning on establishing a corps of volunteer wardens who will inspect public footpaths in their area. As well as reporting any issues found to CWAC, they also help maintain footpaths by doing minor works such as clearing overgrown vegetation. Full training and small hand tools will be provided by CWAC.

Being able to access the countryside is one of the great pleasures of living in Tarvin Parish and there are dozens of footpaths that can be reached very easily. Many regular walkers get frustrated when paths are blocked or overgrown and a good walk can be easily spoiled. But if problems can be reported quickly then problems can be solved and, if appropriate, tackled swiftly and locally by the warden.
