When Jim Grogan first envisaged a woodland on the land between the village and the “new” A51 Tarvin Bypass, it was always his ambition that it should be a community woodland – one that was run by members of the community for the whole Tarvin community. Over the years, this ethos has been at the forefront of the minds of the Woodland Trustees, and we believe that Tarvin is at least unusual (if not unique) in having a woodland which is completely owned by the village and managed by a set of Trustees who are all members of the village community.
However, there is no guarantee that the Trustees are the repository of all wisdom and that they always know what is best for the woodland and the village. The only way that they can find that out is for the members of the community to tell them. That is why, each year, we have an Autumn Coffee Morning when the Trustees are on hand to sit, to listen and to talk with anyone and everyone from our village about how the woodland is being run and how it is developing. Yes it is also an opportunity to do some fundraising – running a woodland doesn’t come cheap and all the money used to run Tarvin woodland is provided by the people of Tarvin. But, mostly, it’s a chance to talk to folk. Do come along to Tarvin Methodist Church between 10 am and Noon on Saturday, 18th October, and tell us what you think. We really do need to know!
Because of Storm Amy, we missed the apple pressing in the woodland this year. Tomake up a little, the front of the Chapel will feature an apple press. Bring along your apples or pick a few from the trees in the woodland to enjoy the freshly pressed juice. Also, on the front of the Chapel will be the Christmas Pancake Stall, run by the Christmas Market Committee, raising money to pay for the High Street to be closed for the Christmas Market. They, too, need your support. Inside Chapel, you can enjoy a hot drink with cake or with a bacon bap and, of course, there will be a raffle. Yes – that’s fundraising! But what's more important than your cash is your opinion of our woodland.
