In recent years cycling has become a growth activity. As a sport, it has ceased to be a niche event and it's Lycra covered heros and heroines have graced many a sporting podium and brought medals home by the handful. But not many in the village may know that the bug has also bitten members of Tarvin Methodist Church who have formed their own cycling group, The Wheelies.
This group of cycling enthusiasts meet on the first Monday and third Saturday of each month. They plan rides that spend the minimum time on main roads and use cycle ways and off road routes whenever possible. Steep hills are off the menu, but a pleasant café stop is a must. Bikes may have to be transported to the start of the ride, but sometimes a lift on a trailer can be arranged.
All that is needed is a little enthusiasm, a moderate amount of interest in gentle exercise and a great ability to laugh out loud. Church membership is not required, though a bike and a bicycle pump are definitely needed.
There is much evidence to suggest that exercise, fresh air and good companions are great aides to good health. With the summer approaching fast, why not get the bike out of the back of the shed, pump up the tyres and join the Wheelies.
