Tarvin Early Summer BioBlitz!

Saturday, 30th May - 10 am to 3 pm  Tarvin Community Woodland Orchard

Last September, members of the Natural Sciences Department at Chester University came to our woodland and led our first Bioblitz – an activity in which as many people as possible search our woodland to find as many creatures and plants as they can.  If repeated multiple times, this activity will provide us with a baseline for the range and biodiversity of the animal and plant species that call Tarvin’s woodland their “home”.

The University were keen to repeat the activity in 2026, asking whether it could perhaps be held twice over the year?  Trustees agreed, and so this year we will be running an Autumn Bioblitz in parallel with Apple Pressing Day on Saturday, 3rd October and will have an early-Summer Bioblitz next Saturday, Saturday, 30th May.  The day runs from 10 am to 3 pm and will be held in the Orchard area of the woodland, behind Crossfields.  The University folk will be on hand to point people in the right direction, to identify any creatures, flowers or other plants that you come across and to organise craft work for youngsters who are so inclined.

Children particularly love the hunt but adults, too, can enjoy the challenge of seeing how many different sorts of living things can be found in our woodland.  Do come along – and bring other families along with you!  There’s plenty of room for everyone!
