new housing proposal

At the Open Forum of the Parish Council meeting on Monday 27th June, two representative of Crabtree Homes of Frodsham presented their proposals for a low density housing development, including an all-weather pitch, on land between Townfield Lane and the A54. This land, designated green belt, is currently used for grazing.

The company suggest a 40 dwelling development of 2 to 5 bedrooms homes of which 44% would be built as 'affordable', a proportion well above the legal minimum. Though the access route to the development has not yet been decided, or indeed secured, it was envisaged at this stage that it would be from Crossfields. Extensive landscaping would also be an integral part of the plan.

The Parish Council's current policy regarding this land is that it should remain as Green Belt. The Parish Council acknowledges that this land's Green Belt status is something of an anomaly as it does not prevent built up areas joining together or safeguard agricultural land, traditional reasons for having a green belt. However their current policy is that should any new housing be needed in the village it should be located east of Tarporley Road where there is a strong possibility of a planning application being forthcoming soon. The Parish Council has also expressed reservations about vehicular access from Crossfields, both in the problems caused by extra traffic on residential streets and by the effect it would have on the character of Townfield Lane.

The proposal from Crabtree is still in its early stages. The Company is inviting the public to view and comment on their proposals at two public meetings:

Friday 8th July from 3.00 pm till 7.00 pm

Saturday 9th July from 10.00 am until 2.00 pm

Both meetings will be in the Edna Rose Room at the Community Centre

The Parish Council would also like to stress that no planning application for the proposal has yet been received. If and when this comes forward then the public will be informed so that they can come to the appropriate meeting and make their views known.
