Ashton Hayes and Tarvin Flower Club Report of AGM and Talk

We had a good turnout for an annual meeting which was quickly and efficiently executed. Our finances are sound so it was decided to keep the same subscription rate as last year. It was stressed however that several Cheshire flower clubs have had to close and that if we cannot get some younger committee members we would follow.

A Flower Arranger's Garden This was the title Of Sharon's presentation and talk. She grouped the plants in her garden into categories with similar characteristics and explained how these could be used throughout the year in their varying forms. Many plants we recognised as growing in our own gardens and as we use garden foliage to accompany our flowers this was very useful. Once the pictures had been seen Sharon made a hand-tied bunch and told us what plants she was using. Before the talk Sharon had made 2 designs using only plants from her garden, some fresh foliage, some dried or seed heads and some lightly sprayed to improve a faded part. These were very effective and along with a tub of snowdrops, a decorative and seasonal heart and 3 designs provided by members of the club we had a good raffle. Homemade shortbread was served with out tea/coffee and we enjoyed chatting with friends as well as meeting newcomers to the village.

March 8th is our next meeting when we welcome Diana Lloyd who will tell us about her Flower Farm in Tarporley. Special refreshments will again be served. We meet in the Edna Rose room at the Community Centre. Start time is 7-30pm and visitors are always welcome.
