Members of the audiences at Community centre who lend a hand to stack the chairs at the end of a performance will have learn that there is an art to the process. This week, however, I have seen two photographs that suggest that we might not be ambitious enough in this regard.

Firstly, the question of the height to stack the chairs? When we created the lounge/bar area recently we had to create and then manage with a much smaller storage space for tables, chairs and floor mats. The size of the store was based on stacks of eight chairs but subsequently health and safety considerations reduced the figure to six. Certainly, as a member of the management committee, and of a certain age, handling a stack of six has its merits. Then I came across this photograph of workers taking away stacks of chairs after a political rally in Mumbai, India!

If India leads the way in handling stacks of chairs, it was a photograph of "The Observer" by Patricia Piccinini at the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane that revealed that we might also not be creative enough when it comes to providing good sightlines at performances especially for young children!

Would most parents at the Family Film Night be be in favour of such an innovative seating arrangement?

Should we stick to the mats at the front?
