Peter Collins, whose book 'The Art and Mystique of Needlemaking' was published recently, will be at Tarvin Library on September 7th to talk about the book. Peter traces the history of his wife's family, the Morralls, who were pioneers in this specialised trade in the West Midlands from the late eighteenth century until 1991 – see our article on 16th July.
As well as talking about the book, Peter will also be displaying a collection of antique needles, needle cases and other objects of interest. In this age where 'mending' is a dying concept and where Velcro rules, this is an opportunity to take a closer look at our industrial and cultural past.
Peter will be at the Library from 1.30 until 5.00 and the event is free and open to all.
