spring clean day

The Government has designated Saturday March 21st , the first day of spring, as Community Clear-Up Day and is urging all communities to take some time out to get their neighbourhoods spruced up for summer.

Local Government Minister Kris Hopkins said at the launch " It is time to roll up our sleeves and bring the broom back out of the cupboard because by looking after our local areas we can help make them better places to work and live"

The Parish Council agreed to take part in the initiative at their meeting on Monday evening (Feb23rd). Despite the rather short timescale, they felt that the event would strike a chord with local people who would be happy to take part in an initiative that beautifies the Parish. Councillor Hones agreed to act as local co-ordinator.

The problem of litter is a perennial one at Parish level. Nationally about £800 million is spent on street cleaning, money that could be spent more productively elsewhere. Though the state of the village centre has improved considerably in recent months there are still areas of Tarvin Parish that could be improved.

If you wish to get involved please call Councillor Roger Hones on 01829 741580 or email him on rogerhones@hotmail.co.uk
