The Community Centre held its Annual General Meeting last night (Tuesday 5th) The new committee was elected and the audited annual accounts presented and accepted.

The new Committee is:

Chairman – Alan Wilkinson
Vice-Chairman – Brian Hardacre
Secretary – Jane Lush
Treasurer – Ted Lush.

Other Committee members are – Vic and Jan Shuttlewood, Roy and Liz Brereton, Lyn and Peter Brunton, Sue Hardacre. The Tarvin WI and the Ashton Hayes and Tarvin Flower Club will still send a regular member to join the Committee – currently Gill Williams and Judith Laing – and the Civic Trust will send an ad hoc observer.

The Committee was sorry to lose the services of Grenville Phillips and Bill Williams, and thanked them for all their support. They were delighted to welcome Bryan Evans as a returning member to their ranks.

A number of other individuals have expressed a willingness to become involved without necessarily becoming full committee members and it was agreed to look at a process to develop and support these "occasional members/supporters"

The Chairman's' report stressed the growing confidence of the Committee since the signing of the new lease and the opportunities for expansion that now existed. However he also highlighted the need for new structures to manage the increasing work load, a situation that had forced him to contemplate resigning as Chairman. He remained confident that the new spread of responsibilities would be effective and the Committee would benefit from gaining a wider knowledge of the processes needed for the smooth running of the organisation.

With regular activities happening on most days of the week and an active programme of films, theatre and music, the Community Centre was continuing to provide a range of events for a wide cross section of ages. With a mixture of traditional advertising and an active use of social media, the Community Centre was now firmly embedded in the social life of the village.

The finances of the Centre are healthy and the Committee is meeting its plan to pay the large CW&C service charge from regular lettings. However there are constant demands on the funds and care has to be taken to get the balance right between saving for the major planned improvements and keeping the Centre looking smart. Some recent improvements have been funded by access to small local grants and business sponsorship and this policy will be pursued.
