Tarvin Community Woodland Trust has plans well under way for the first ever 1K run (for children) and 5K run to take place in our own Woodland on Sunday morning, 17th September 2023 – so put the date into your diaries!
The main running costs of the event are being generously sponsored by Tarvin Precision, which allows the organisers to plan a really good inaugural event. Other local sponsors have pledged additional funds which will also be very helpful. Tarvin Community Woodland Trust is very grateful to all of them. More about other sponsors will be published on another occasion, when all the additional support has been confirmed.
Tarvin Precision was established in 1995 and operated until 2012 at Tarvin Sands Industries, just off Barrow Lane. Since relocating to Hawarden (close to the Airbus complex), Tarvin Precision has developed into an Aerospace Certified supplier of precision CNC Machined components and assemblies for use in aerospace, defence, scientific, mining and specialist sutomotive sectors. However, most of their staff still live in, or are strongly connected to the village of Tarvin. David Cooper, Managing Director of Tarvin Precision, says "It is an absolute pleasure to support the inaugural Tarvin Community Woodland Run. This is something that is made possible by the wonderful volunteers who exist in the community. The woodland walk is something valuable to Tarvin and its residents, and to celebrate its existence in such a fun way is fantastic".
Organisers are hoping that the event will be as sustainable as possible and participants, spectators and volunteers will be encouraged to walk or cycle to the event. Numbers will be limited in this first year and registration for the event will start in the early summer. Runners will also be encouraged to raise money for the Tarvin Community Woodland Trust through individual sponsorship. All of the runners completing their race will receive a wooden medal, reflecting the aim of sustainability and the special location of the event. All children in the 1K run will receive a goody bag full of healthy things!
