Friday evening saw the return of the annual Tarvin Village Quiz, run and hosted by Tarvin Community Centre Management Committee.

Despite a week of bad weather and an extremely cold evening, people turned out in force to support the 42nd annual quiz. A total of 19 teams took part – many returning participants but plenty of new faces too, including our local MP, Aphra Brandreth.

At the end of the standard round of quiz questions, two teams were tied on 98 points – Tarvin Parish Council and In Our Quiz Era. The one-minute quick-fire round became a genuine decider, however at the end of the round both teams were still neck and neck. This led to a tie-break question which was quickly and correctly answered by Neil (Tarvin Parish Council). The title was clinched by reigning champions Tarvin Parish Council! Commiserations to In Our Quiz Era who missed out by milliseconds and were worthy runners up.

A lot of work goes in to putting on this annual village event, with a special mention to the following Management Committee members;

Jane A – Who is responsible for organising the evening and getting together all the people who make the evening work so well, as well as overseeing the raffle.

Jane L – Who is responsible for putting together such a great quiz.

Yurii P – Who was responsible for the music round and helped with the scoring.

A big thank you to other members of our community including the unflappable Mac who continues to be a superb Quiz Master, Felicity Pochin for assisting with scoring, and Lynne Twissell, Sammy Twissell, Helen Barker, Anne Richardson and Cathy Hones for their help with the raffle.

Thank you to everyone for attending on Friday evening – without everyone s support the Quiz would not be so successful. We are already looking ahead to Tarvin Village Quiz 2026, with further information to be shared in the Autumn.

The Community Centre is run by a Management Committee, made up of unpaid trustees and volunteers. Without the hard work of the Committee, valuable village events such as this would be unable to take place. We are always looking for new members to join our small and friendly team. It is a brilliant way to become part of the village community and a great way to make new friends, particularly if you are new to the area.

Research suggests that volunteering is good for you, and those who act in the interest of others experience a boost in positive emotions and psychological wellbeing. Volunteering is also associated with greater self-esteem.

Joining the Community Centre Management Committee is simple, you will have an immediate impact and you will be working with people who, like you, want to make a difference in the local community.

If you would like to get involved or are interested in finding out ways in which you can ensure the Community Centre continues to thrive, please contact our Chairman Ted Lush via email (chairman@tarvincommunitycentre.org).
