We have made some changes to our Home page!
Is it looking a bit odd with photos stacked all over the place?
Your computer 'remembers' some key information about the Home page in a cache to help the website load faster. However when we make changes it can take a few hours for your computer to re-check that it has the correct cache information. If you cannot wait then press F5 on your keyboard and that will force the refresh straight away.
Why have we made the changes?
Every day we can see how many people log on ( visits). We obviously don't know who you are! We also record how many pages are looked at each day — but not which ones.
The number of visits varies quite widely from day to day so there was a good chance that visitors every other day say would miss some articles.
To ensure we keep stories on the Home page and so visible when you log on we have extended the number of articles that can be shown to 9 and these will stay there for 3-4 days. They will always be available through the Newsroom tab along the top of the Homepage.
In our 4 months since launch we have had 15700 people log on and they have viewed over 45000 pages. Our average daily visits at present is about 130. We also have a Facebook audience of 170 and all our article summaries go out on Facebook and Twitter to alert you and hopefully encourage you onto the website to read the full story.
The scrolling banner?
Just like the 24 hr TV news channel we have a scrolling banner across the top of the Home page to catch the eye of our visitors.
The rotating photos?
These are now 'letterbox' shape- just like the widescreen cinema/TV of old. We now need to take some care with our photo selection to ensure we can sensibly stretch them into this format so please bear with us while we experiment
Thanks for your growing support. We hope that in the wide range of stories we provide you will find some things of interest. We always welcome ideas or even full stories from you to publish. If you run a Club, Society, Service or Business do tell us what is coming up and after its happened how good it was!
You can of course use the Chatbox if you want ( its anonymous but you need to register)
Waiting to hear from you at firstname.lastname@example.org
