Residents of Tarvin are being warned about a new scam targeting Council Tax payments. Cheshire West and Chester Council has identified that fraudsters are sending emails to residents, falsely claiming there are outstanding Council Tax payments. The emails encourage recipients to click on a link to 'confirm their payment status', leading to a fraudulent online form requesting sensitive bank details.
Maria Byrne, Director of Environment and Communities at Cheshire West and Chester Council, urges recipients of such emails to avoid clicking on any links or attachments. These emails are not from the Council Tax team and should be deleted immediately.
The Council advises that official correspondence will always be sent from '@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk' or 'donotreply@rabs.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk', and text messages will not come from unknown mobile numbers. For further assurance, any links included in genuine Council Tax communications will direct you to the official Council Tax webpage.
Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious emails to the relevant authorities, reinforcing community safety against scams.
