From Ted Lush (Tarvin/Kelsall Ward Councillor) ...

Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC) are consulting on changes to Library hours and the proposals will impact on Tarvin Library.

The current proposal is to reduce Tarvin Library hours by 2.5 per week. Currently the Library is open 12:00 to 19:00 every Tuesday and 13:30 to 17:00 on a Thursday. The change proposed is Tuesday 14:00 to 19:00 and Thursday 14:00 to 17:00.

I accept that CWaC, because of inadequate and reducing Central Government grant support, must make reductions. The current proposal at least keeps our Library open , staffed by professionals. However, my view is that Tarvin, together with many other rural areas, are not getting their fair share of public services for the increasing Council Tax they must pay. Based on current forecasts this situation that is likely to continue beyond 2024. In addition, the changes will reduce the rent paid to the Community Centre for use of the Edna Rose room where the library is based.
